The View co-hosts wondered if President Obama’s popularity was decreasing after hearing remarks from Bill Maher. Elisabeth Hasselbeck said that Bill Maher seems sick of seeing President Obama on television. The co-hosts discussed whether they believed President Obama is overexposed. Sherri Shepherd reported that she believes one of the reasons the media is interested in the president is due to his race. Whoopi Goldberg said, “I’m glad to see him on TV” and reported that she liked the way he handled Iran.
A prominent GOP activist told his facebook friends that the gorillas who escaped from a North Carolina zoo were probably Michelle Obama’s ancestors. The co-hosts of The View discussed racism among the GOP, and Elisabeth said, “It’s just flat out embarrassing.” Whoopi asked if the senator’s aide who sent out a racist email should be fired. Elisabeth and Sherri agreed that she should lose her job.
Joy talked about her recent run-in with a fan. The fan saw Joy walking down the street in regular clothes. She reported that the fan said that he’s her biggest fan and showed her his police badge. Joy said that they had walked about four blocks together when he looked at her and said, “This is what you’re wearing.” Joy said she doesn’t wear expensive clothing.
Michelle Pfeiffer and Rupert Friend
The stars of the movie Cheri, Michelle Pfeiffer and Rupert Friend, discussed the movie. Cheri features an older woman who has a relationship with a much younger man. Barbara Walters said that she loved the movie and had so much fun watching it. The View co-hosts asked Michelle what she thought about the term cougar when referring to an older woman dating a younger man. Michelle said that she wasn’t a fan of the term and found it irritating.
Rupert Friend said that he doesn’t own a television set. He reported that he gets his news from the internet. The View co-hosts asked him about statements he has made regarding paparazzi, and he said that the paparazzi can become too aggressive with attractive, female stars. Cheri is coming out in theaters on June 26, 2009.
Shirley Jones and Marty Ingels
Shirley Jones, famous for playing the mother on The Partridge Family, and her husband of 31 years, Marty Ingels, discussed their marriage and her career. When asked how her marriage has lasted 31 years, Shirley reported that she realized that she laughs more than she cries. She reported that Marty is a little bit quieter at home. Shirley has an upcoming appearance on The Cleaner in which she is topless. Whoopi announced that Shirley might pose for Playboy.
